For props class, I will either be making body innards and another two items. I have been asked to do some research on body innards, I can't wait to make them as I think they're going to look very interesting.
For my first project of my third year, I will be the scenic artist on all four productions that take place in the first term. This blog will show my journey as both a practitioner and a person as I take on this challenge.

Girl Band in the Mens Room
Girl Band in the Mens Room is a short play about a girl rock band in the mid-nineties who are just about to play a gig at a bar, but have been put in the men's room to sit and wait to go on.
During the play, we learn about the different characters. Rachel is the leader of the band, she writes the songs and keeps everything together but has a troubled life of her own. We hear about this life when they talk about her mother and the trouble she has with her. She is a fan of Kurt Cobain and is deeply troubled at his death
Murphy is the youngest and a bit of a wild child. She's very into her drumming and is easily excitable.
Lindy appears to be the more serious one, but she also has a temper on her, and will blow up at the smallest thing. It's obvious that she finds Rachel's feeling hard to cope with sometimes, but will always come back to her as the loving friend.
Merce is cool and sexy and is the singer in the band. She constantly plays up to her sexiness and knows that she could make any man fall to his knees.
Not a lot happens during the play, but we do learn that there's the possibility of the band getting a contract and there's a suspense throughout it as to wether they will or not.
It's a very short and sweet play with some great dialogue in it. I feel privileged to be a part of it and although I only really have a week to put it all together, I think it's going to be lots of fun.

Set Images for GBMR
I have collected some images to use as inspiration for the set for Girl Band in the Mens Room. The set is very simplistic because of the space, but there are a few key pieces.
We need a urinal, a stall, a table and chairs and some storage boxes to show that the space is also used for storage.
There will also be a short piece at the start called 'Obsessive Impulsive'. For this piece we will need to dress the table with a cloth and maybe a candle, we need proper chairs to go at the table and possibly something that represents a bar at the back.

Costume, Hair and Make-up inspiration GBMR
I am advising the girls on what they have to wear for Girl Band in the Mens Room.
We are going for a 90s rock/grunge look.
Here are a few images I collected to help them out with their styling. They are sourcing the costumes themselves from their own wardrobes or charity shops. This is just to keep them on the right track.

Hands-on Costume Design
The last session we went to at USITT was a hands on costume designing session.
We were given an image and a quote and from these sources, we had to draw emotions and feelings:
We then had to draw a costume design based on these thoughts and feelings. This is what I came up with:
I'm not sure why this design came into my head, it just seemed right for what I wrote down as the image and the quote were very contrasting. Plus i can imagine this is the sort of lamenting a jester would do. Perhaps he is a Jester who is actually quite smart and serious but he's been thrown into a Jesters role?
It's a good starting point which is what it's meant to be. If I was to develop it more, I would perhaps make the the fact that he's a Jester a little more subtle or perhaps I'd need to make it modern.
I really liked using the watercolours and using them has made me remember how nice they are to use. I'm going to try and use watercolours more in my costume renderings.

Updated April Work Plan
I have added more events to my April workplan. It's still very hard to plan out my time, but hopefully I'll know more by the end of the week when I've signed up to some of the afternoon sessions.
