Girl Band in the Mens Room is a short play about a girl rock band in the mid-nineties who are just about to play a gig at a bar, but have been put in the men's room to sit and wait to go on.
During the play, we learn about the different characters. Rachel is the leader of the band, she writes the songs and keeps everything together but has a troubled life of her own. We hear about this life when they talk about her mother and the trouble she has with her. She is a fan of Kurt Cobain and is deeply troubled at his death
Murphy is the youngest and a bit of a wild child. She's very into her drumming and is easily excitable.
Lindy appears to be the more serious one, but she also has a temper on her, and will blow up at the smallest thing. It's obvious that she finds Rachel's feeling hard to cope with sometimes, but will always come back to her as the loving friend.
Merce is cool and sexy and is the singer in the band. She constantly plays up to her sexiness and knows that she could make any man fall to his knees.
Not a lot happens during the play, but we do learn that there's the possibility of the band getting a contract and there's a suspense throughout it as to wether they will or not.
It's a very short and sweet play with some great dialogue in it. I feel privileged to be a part of it and although I only really have a week to put it all together, I think it's going to be lots of fun.
